Adirondack Watershed Race Circuit

The AWRC features a series of events selected to showcase the diversity of paddling opportunities in the North Country Region of Upstate New York. Participants will paddle on five of the watersheds percolating from the heart of the six million acre Adirondack State Park – supported by The North Country Regional Economic Development Council. Hosted by The Adirondack Watershed Alliance.

Adirondack Watershed Race Circuit (AWRC) C-1 Pro & Amateur Championship

Start & Finish: Taylor Park, Miner St. Rd (2 miles from Main St.), Canton, NY

Distance: 1/3 mile, 2/3 mile, 1 mile, 3 miles, 5 miles, 8 miles, 12 miles, 14 miles

Description: The Grasse River (also spelled Grass) is a slow flowing river with very little drop in the 4-miles used by the races. It has gentle curves and wooded shore make it ideal for canoeing. The Little River flows into the Grasse and is much narrower yet both are well deep enough for canoeing any time of the season. The start-finish at Taylor Park is the town beach with good access and parking.

Rushton Recreational Races (Saturday morning): The 5-mile course includes a 1.5-mile upstream leg, a 2.5-mile downstream leg and 1-mile upstream to the finish. The 1, 3 & 8-mile events are similar.

C-1Pro and C-1 & K-1 Amateur (Saturday afternoon): The 12-mile amateur course is 3-miles upstream, 4-miles downstream, turn into the Little River (small tributary) and 1.5-miles upstream, 1.5-miles downstream back onto the Grasse and 1-mile to the finish. The 14-mile Pro course is the same except for a downstream start 1-mile and return 1-mile then it is the same as the amateur course.

C-2Pro and C-2 Amateur (Sunday morning): Same as the C-1 course.

Rushton Relay (Sunday afternoon)- 4-6 paddlers take turns on the 1, 2/3 & 1/3 mile legs of the relay all within sight of the beach, spectators and teammates.

Round the Mountain Canoe & Kayak Races

May 16 • Saranac Lake

Start: Ampersand Bay Resort on Lower Saranac Lake
Finish: Lake Flower Boat Launch, Saranac Lake, NY

Start Time: 11:00am

Description: This flat water race starts at Ampersand Bay Resort on Lower Saranac Lake. Paddlers go southwest to Bluff Island, where they turn south into the Saranac River. Competitors then follow the river to the Lower Locks, where there is a short carry to Oseetah Lake. Paddlers then cross the lake to the islands in the northwest. The course ends on Lake Flower in Village of Saranac Lake. Paddlers are encouraged to bring their own shuttle from the start to finish.

Black River Challenge

June 28 • Glenfield

Start: NYS DEC Boat Launch, Glenfield, NY
Finish: NYS DEC Boat Launch Castorland, NY

Distacnce: 28 miles

Description: All downriver, no carries; The Black River is a twisty, winding river of varying depth with occasional hazards (shoals, old dams and bridge abutments, and embedded trees in the river bottom)

Saranac Flat-water Challenge

July 18 • Saranac

C-2 Stock – Men, Women & Mixed Circuit Race #4 • C-1 Stock – Men & Women Circuit Race #3

Start & Finish: Town of Saranac Recreation Center and Boat Launch, Picketts Corner, Saranac, NY (Rout 3 west of Plattsburgh

Distance: 5, 9, or 15 miles depending on boat class

Description: Flatwater course with dependable water levels, minor eddies, some shallows, scenic and quiet section of the river. Short course is good for beginners and families.

The Adirondack Canoe Classic - The 90 Miler

September 11, 12, & 13

Start: Old forge, NY
Finish: Saranac Lake, NY

Distance: 90 miles

Competitor Check-in: Thursday, September 10 from 4-10pm

Start Time: Friday, September 11 at 8:00am

Description: This is a three day stage event for both competitive and open touring paddlers. The course is 90-miles of flat water following  the original highways of the Adirondacks from Old Forge to Saranac Lake. The course offers a mix of lake and river flat water paddling with several carries. Participants receive a T-shirt, mileage pins, awards, snacks, and boat shuttles. Entry forms for this race go out via U.S. Mail in June (email or call before June 1 to be added to the mailing list). The 90 - Miler is limited to 275 boats. Entry deadline is July 20, 2015

Description: North Country Regional Voyageur Canoe Championships - Pro race! Vintage War Canoe event, Adirondack Watershed Race Circuit Grand Finale.
Lots of fun in Long Lake!  Great prizes.  Day of Race Registration happens on the porch of the Adirondack Hotel.

The Fine Print

To qualify for the C-1 Stock or Touring Kayak AWRC - you must participate in all three events.
To qualify for the C-2 Stock AWRC – partners stay together and count results from their best 4 of 5 event finishes. To qualify for the C-4 Stock AWRC – Teams will be made up of 2 men and 2 women; 3 of the 4 team members must be in the boat for each of the 3 events.
C-1 Pro and Amateur AWRC Champions are the winners of the Canton Canoe Weekend races. There will be a premium paid out to the fastest C-1 Pro Woman and fastest C-1 Pro Veteran.
C-4 Pro Stock AWRC Champions are the winners of the Hamilton County Canoe Challenge. There will be a premium paid out to the fastest all male and all female teams. The Hamilton County Canoe Challenge will also be the third race in the North Country Regional C-4 Series. There will be a $5000 purse!
The Voyageur (War Canoe) Standard Class AWCR Champions are the winners of the Long Lake Long Boat Regatta. Teams must be co – ed with at least two males and two females in the boat. There will be a $5000 purse!
Awards will be presented at the end of the season party in Long Lake on September 26.
